How to Become More Creative - with Lessons from Neuroscience

with Amirali Banani | STEM Quest 3.0 | January 3, 2026

In this workshop-like session of STEM Quest 3.0, Amirali explores the neuroscience of creativity, focusing on how creative thinking can be intentionally enhanced rather than treated as a rare moment of inspiration. Drawing on research from cognitive neuroscience, his talk breaks down the neural networks involved in creativity—particularly the Default Mode Network—and explains how processes such as mind-wandering, incubation, and exploration support idea generation.

The session then outlines five neuroscience-backed strategies, including reclaiming childlike curiosity, reducing perfectionism, leveraging sleep and dopamine balance, and using cross-modal learning to strengthen creative circuits in the brain. In providing a practical, neuroscience-backed framework for cultivating creativity as a trainable cognitive skill that can be used consistently in daily life, this session is a guide on how you can leverage your inner creative power to make you more creative without having to consciously think about it.
